The Service Sector Co-operative

To take the burden of catering to the demands of everyday hospitality sector requirements off the
shoulders of the Mother Co-op members a separate 'Service Sector Co-operative' of say 40 to 50 people
will be formed on the basis of it being entitled to a fair percentage of the relevant aspects' return.

How the Service Sector Co-operative Will Work

The advantages of establishing a 'Service Sector Co-operative' are many, but the main benefit to the Mother Co-op will be that the Service Sector Co-op will be an independent body that is paid a set percentage of the take for the service it provides; it is responsible for its own oversight - apart from that of senior management of the Mother Co-op - insurances and taxes etc. and as such relieves the Mother Co-op of the burden and complications associated with employing staff on a wage.

As this will be an independent body all members will be in effect self employed and will have an equal say and equal share of the revenue the co-op enjoys regardless of their function, and the offshore marketing strategy (if adopted) will ensure that the rewards justify their efforts. Catering to general management, logistics, hospitality and catering, accommodation servicing, gardening and ground work, maintenance engineering will be among the services it provides and members can be recruited from Mainland New Zealand or within the Mother co-op community, or from the Chatham Islands general community, and all will earn a lot more than their hospitality industry counterparts, and as such will be more reliable, stable and productive. Furthermore, as the offshore marketing strategy will make provision for the entire cost to have such a facility presence the Mother Co-op's 'bottom line' will not be effected.

Members who have been recruited from within the Mother Co-op community will get two bites at the cherry because they will already be enjoying excellent returns as their share of the Mother Co-op revenue. There will also be those who have opted in for the 'retirement village' concept who will be happy to participate (even if on a part time basis).

Wherever they originate, if not already trained in the various skills required they would be given the necessary instruction to become efficient in the fields that would suit them and once the tourist aspects start to operate would have a guaranteed monthly income of say $6,000 to $7,000 for the 9 months of the year that they would be working, making being a member a very attractive proposition and certainly worthwhile working diligently to maintain.
